What is the OTA Dependency Score?

The OTA Dependency Score is Nearsight's proprietary model that estimates how much a vacation rental management company relies on Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) for bookings, versus acquiring guests directly through their own website and marketing channels.

How It Works

Since we can't access a company's actual booking data, we analyze publicly available signals that indicate where their bookings are likely coming from. These signals are aggregated and normalized to produce a score between 0 and 100.

Low (0-33)

Appears to be more direct booking focused with strong owned channels

Medium (34-66)

Balanced distribution across direct and OTA booking channels

High (67-100)

Appears to rely more heavily on OTA platforms for bookings

Signals Used to Calculate the Score

Our model analyzes several publicly available data points to estimate a company's channel mix and their relative reliance on third-party booking platforms.

Website Traffic

Estimated monthly organic traffic to the company's primary direct booking website

Social Media Presence

Follower counts indicating investment in building their own audience

Airbnb Reviews

Review counts as a proxy for OTA-specific booking volume

Portfolio Size

Number of properties managed, as larger portfolios often correlate with stronger direct channels

Important note: The OTA Dependency Score is an experimental model. We are constantly working on ways to improve its accuracy and helpfulness, which may include introducing additional signals.
